Women's soccer team blanks Gordon State in Southeast District semifinal

The Eastern Florida State College defeated Gordon State College 5-0 in the Southeast District semifinal on Thursday night in Barnesville, Georgia.

The Titans improved to 13-0 on the season and will play for a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon against Georgia Military. The Southeast District final will kick off at 3 p.m. at Gordon State College.

The Titans got things going early as Viena Massale scored on assists from Julieta Limardo and Aida Illas.

Right before halftime the Titans made it 2-0 as Paula Garrido puts a shot into the upper left corner on an assist from Illas.

Then a minute into the second half sophomore Morgan Miller scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-0.

Miller would score her second goal of the game and 15th of the season in the 74th minute on an assist from Illas.

Freshman Marthe Taugbol made it 5-0 in the 84th minute with her first career goal as Sofie Sorum and Morgan Zuhlke picked up assists on the goal.

Illas finished with three assists on Thursday and has eight on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kiera Gibson tied her own single-season record with her eighth shutout of the season.

The Titans are looking to return to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for the eighth straight season on Friday. The tournament will be held at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus from Nov. 18-23.
