Women's soccer team beats Daytona State in OT to win Region 8 title

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team defeated Daytona State College in overtime to claim the Region 8 Tournament title on Saturday night.

The Titans, who are 12-0 overall and No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, scored two minutes into overtime to claim the 2-1 win.

Goalkeeper Kiera Gibson found Paula Garrido who found freshman Francesca Espinoza. Espinoza took one dribble and hit a shot into the back of the net and the celebration began.

Morgan Miller scored her 13th goal of the season from Espinoza and Aida Illas to give the Titans a 1-0 lead in the first half but Daytona State College tied it in the second half.

"The girls deserve it. Daytona scored an incredible goal to tie the game, but we kept our composure and played well," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said.

It was Espinoza's ninth goal of the season as the freshman has now scored in three straight games and has a goal or assist in the past six games.
