Women's soccer team finishes regular season unbeaten

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team finished the regular season unbeaten for the third time in program history.

The Titans defeated Daytona State College 2-1 to improve to 10-0 overall and 8-0 in the Region 8 Conference, the first time in three seasons the Titans have been perfect in conference play.

With just under 38 minutes remaining freshman Francesca Espinoza slotted a shot past Daytona's goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the first goal of the game. It was Espinoza's sixth goal of the season.

Daytona State would tie the game on a penalty kick, the second goal that the Titans have allowed this season.

But with 11:22 left in the second half, freshman Paula Garrido hit the game winner after Eastern Florida State College had a couple of good chances including one that went off the post, it was Garrido who made a quick move and snuck it into the corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season.

From there the Titans defense held on for the win.

The Titans will play the winner of Broward College and Polk State College Thursday at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the FCSAA District/FCSAA State Tournament at Daytona State College while host Daytona will play ASA Miami at 7 p.m.

The championship game will be next Saturday at Daytona State College.
