Women's soccer blanks Polk State, wins conference title

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team locked up their ninth Region 8 Conference regular season title Wednesday night on the road.

The Titans defeated Polk State College 7-0 to improve to 6-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall.

It is the eighth straight shutout for the women's soccer team which is a program record and sophomore goalkeeper Kiera Gibson has not allowed a goal this season, which ties her own program record set last season.

Offensively, sophomore Aida Illas got things started early, scoring on an assist from Francesca Espinoza and Julieta Limardo in the first minute of the game.

Sophomore Morgan Miller scored the first of her three goals on a penalty kick in the 38th minute. Miller also scored in the 78th and 89th minute for her second hat trick of the season. The Melbourne native has a team-leading 11 goals this season.

Illas scored her second goal of the night in the 77th minute as Amiah Cirino and Emily Bodi picked up the assist. Freshmen Viena Massale and Paula Garrido also scored in the win.

The Titans will travel to ASA Miami on Sunday and then play at Daytona State College next Thursday to wrap up the regular season.
