Scott Carswell joins women's soccer program as assistant coach

Eastern Florida State College has hired former Merritt Island High School girls soccer coach Scott Carswell as an assistant coach with the women's soccer team.

Carswell won three state championships at Merritt Island including back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and went to eight state championship games in 17 seasons.

"I had been at the high school game for 25 years and was ready for a change and shortly after Jeff announced he was going to retire," Carswell said. "My wife always wanted me to coach in college, but the only job I ever wanted to work with was Eastern Florida. They have a great reputation, great coaching staff and great players that is local. It's been in my back yard for the 50 years I have been here so when Jeff offered me an assistant's role, it was like a dream come true."

Carswell joins a Titans program that has won nine Region 8 championships and been to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament final in 2012 and 2015 and been to the national semifinals five times in the past seven seasons including this past fall season.

"We are very excited to add Scott to our staff.  We have similar coaching philosophies and he is a proven winner," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "He has been successful at many levels, and has coached some of the best players in the state with the ODP program. Scott has produced many great players out of his high school program and he will develop great players here as well.  Scott is passionate about the game and we are very fortunate to have him as part of our program."

Carswell joins associate head coach Teresa Moon and goalkeeper coach Calvin Dixon as members of the women's soccer team staff.
