Women's soccer team set to open national tournament Tuesday evening

For the seventh straight season, the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will be competing in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.

But for the first time, they will do it on the road. The tournament, which begins on Monday, moves from Titan Soccer Complex to Foley, Alabama this season but will return to Titan Soccer Complex in 2019.

"I really enjoy hosting the tournament, so this will be a first for us having to travel and maybe it will be to our benefit," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "It is different, but we are looking forward to the opportunity. The girls are coming together at the right time and hopefully momentum is on our side and we can win four games next week."

The Titans are 14-2-1 and won the Southeast District Championship to advance to the national tournament and are on a six-game win streak, outscoring opponents 24-2 in those games.

Eastern Florida State College is the No. 5 seed and are in Pool D with No. 4 seed Arizona Western and No. 9 seed Laramie County Community College.

The Titans will open the tournament Tuesday night against Laramie County Community College at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Titans are 2-0-1 against teams in the tournament this season including an early-season win over Laramie County.

"We are excited to get the No. 5 seed. It was exciting, but Laramie and Arizona Western are very, very good teams so we will have our hands full," Carr said. "I am looking forward to watching this tournament, it is the strongest 12 teams I have seen since I have been coaching college soccer."
