A look at who the women's soccer team will face in Pool D
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will play a couple of strong at-large teams in Pool D next week at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Foley, Alabama.
The Titans come into the tournament as the Southeast District champions and are 14-2-1 on the season. They will open the tournament Tuesday night in Foley, Alabama, facing No. 9 seed Laramie County Community College at 8:30 p.m.
Laramie County is making its fourth straight trip to the national tournaments and has had a strong season behind leading goal scorer Tayler Stoeger who has nine goals and 10 assists. The Titans and Golden Eagles met in the first game of the season at Titan Soccer Complex with the Titans winning, 6-1.
"Laramie is a great team, Jim Gardner is a great coach and I don't expect it to be another 6-1 game, this is the national tournament, so it will be a heated game," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "We take nothing for granted at this point. We have to be ready to play 90 minutes and be focused on playing Laramie."
The Titans will play No. 4 seed Arizona Western at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday who are 21-1 on the season and are coming off the only loss of the season in Region 1 final. The Matadors are 11th in the nation in goals against average, averaging 0.71 goals per game. Offensively, Christiana Boateng leads the way with 27 goals this season.
The winner of the Group D pool will advance to the national championship semifinals on Friday evening. The championship game will be Saturday night at 7 p.m.
