Women's soccer team advances to Southeast District Championship game

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team advanced to the championship game of the Southeast District Tournament Friday with a 3-0 victory over host Spartanburg Methodist in South Carolina.

The Titans will play Gordon State for the championship and a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Gordon State advanced to the final with a 2-1 win over Cape Fear in double overtime.

On Friday afternoon the Titans jumped out to an early lead when Teyah Lindo scores on a pass by Klesha Darroux 24 minutes into the contest.  Freshman Hannah Ryberg made it 2-0 right before halftime on an assist from Cristina Garriga.

Already up 2-0, the Titans would score again early in the second half as Sophia Kenny made it 3-0 on an assist from Lindo.

The Titans, who are No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, will try to win the Southeast District title for the seventh straight season on Saturday. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament Nov. 12 in Foley, Alabama. You can follow updates on @efscwomensoccer Twitter page.
