Women's soccer hosts conference tournament this weekend

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team is hosting the Region 8 Conference Tournament this weekend at Titan Soccer Complex on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans come into the tournament as the No. 1 seed after clinching the regular season title with a 10-2-1 record. They will face ASA Miami who defeated Polk State College 2-0 to advance to the semifinals at 8 p.m. on Friday.

"They have done a tremendous job this year. (head coach) David Luna has done a tremendous job with recruiting and they play with a lot of energy," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said of ASA Miami. "One of the things we have to do is match their energy and I don't think we have done that the first two times we played them. You have to be balanced with your emotions, but we have to play with a lot more energy and urgency on Friday."

Eastern Florida State College and ASA Miami split in the two regular-season meetings with both teams winning at home. Sophomore Klesha Darroux has scored three of her eight goals against the Silver Storm, who come into the game 11-6-1 overall on the season.

No. 2 seed Daytona State College is 11-4 and ranked No. 11 in the nation. The Falcons will play No. 3 Broward College (3-5-2) in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m. The teams split the two regular-season meetings.

"There is a lot of parity in the league this year, anyone can beat anyone any given night. It is good for the league and I think it helps us nationally in the rankings," Carr said.

The winner of the semifinal matches on Friday night will play for the conference title at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. Admission to games at Titan Soccer Complex are free.
