Women's soccer team dominates Polk State

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team scored seven times in the second half to defeat Polk State College 8-0 in a Region 8 Conference game Tuesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

It was the most goals the No. 9-ranked Titans have scored in a game this season as they improved to 5-2 in the conference and 9-2-1 overall.

"That is our best game since early in the season, a lot of different players made an impact in different ways tonight so that is good," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "We just told them (at halftime) that we had missed some chances and it is just a 1-0 game and anything can happen."

The Titans came out in the second half and scored three times in the first six minutes to make sure they avenged an early-season loss on the road to Polk State.

Sophomore Cristina Garriga recorded her first hat trick of the season as all three goals coming in the second half. Garriga now has a team-leading 11 goals on the season.

Teammate Morgan Miller scored twice including a penalty kick after Klesha Darroux was taken down in the box.

Sophomore Keli Lindquist opened the scoring with 15 minutes left in the first half to make it 1-0. Teammates Emily Bodi and Aida Illas also had goals for the Titans.

The win sets up a showdown with Daytona State College Saturday night for the regular season title and No. 1 seed in the Region 8 Tournament. Saturday night's game begins at 7 p.m. at Titan Soccer Complex and admission is free.

"We still have a chance to be the No. 1 seed so that is good but there is a lot of soccer left and we will enjoy this win tonight but get back to work tomorrow," Carr said.
