Women's soccer team defeats ASA Miami in Region 8 Conference matchup

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team defeated ASA Miami Saturday evening in a Region 8 Conference match at Titan Soccer Complex.

The Titans, who are 7-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference, have now won three in a row and are tied with Polk State for the top spot in the conference.

Sophomores Klesha Darroux and Cristina Garriga made sure the Titans won on Saturday as Garriga found Darroux in front of the net less then five minutes into the contest to make it 1-0. Garriga made it 2-0 with a nice chip shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

ASA Miami would cut the lead in half in the first half but the Titans went into halftime up 2-1.

Nine minutes into the second half Garriga found Darroux on a breakaway and Darroux put it past the keeper to take a 3-1 lead.

ASA Miami would once again cut the lead to 3-2 but it would end that way. The Titans finished with 26 shots on Saturday while ASA Miami had four in the game.

"It was a good game, was a little difficult tonight. We got off to a good start but let them get back into it," said Klesha Darroux who now has five goals on the season. "I am confident we will do good as a team we just have to do better at finishing our chances."

After a scrimmage with Space Coast Soccer Club on Tuesday, the Titans will hit the road for a couple of key conference games before hosting Polk State on Oct. 16.
