Women's soccer team tops Daytona State College

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team held on for a 3-2 road win against Daytona State College Tuesday night.

Sophomore Cristina Garriga got things started early, scoring her first goal in the 10th minute on an assist from Klesha Darroux and Keli Lindquist. Then in the 63rd minute Garriga stole a pass and scored her second goal of the night to break a 1-1 tie.

Three minutes later Darroux made it 3-1 on a pass from Beatrice Gards. Daytona State would cut the lead to 3-2 but the Titans held on to improve to 6-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

"We competed tonight, even when they tied it up you could see the resolve in the team," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "We fought back and took a 3-1 lead. I like the resolve and the tenacity of the team. They had a never-quit attitude tonight, I was really pleased with the effort tonight but we have to get better at closing out the game. Big win on the road, effort was there and every conference game is an emotional back and forth contest now."

The Titans outshot Daytona State 20-8 in the game. Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Soccer Complex Saturday evening for a Region 8 Conference game against ASA Miami. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and admission is free to Titan Soccer Complex.
