Women's soccer team shuts out Broward

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team bounced back with a 4-0 victory over Broward College Saturday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

The Titans, who improved to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Region 8 Conference, picked up its third shutout of the season.

Morgan Miller opened the scoring with 15 minutes left in the first half, taking a couple of dribbles and firing a shot into the corner of the net from outside the box.

Head coach Jeff Carr decided earlier in the week that Emily Bodi will begin taking the set pieces for the Titans and it paid off as Bodi struck a free kick perfectly into the top corner of the net from outside the box. Three minutes later she almost did it again as the shot went off the post.

"She was doing that in practice, so it was a no-brainer with a couple people out right now," Carr said. "She did a heck of a job with the other three in the back and that shot really catapulted us tonight."

With 18:50 left in the game, Cristina Garriga made it 3-0 as she took a pass on the run and slid it past the goalkeeper for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Five minutes later Ali Tosches' run was stopped by goalkeeper Lesley Reyes, but the ball found an open Teyah Lindo who blasted it into the back of the net to make it 4-0.

"I was concerned in the first half, we had a lot of chances that we should have finished and I told them a 1-0 lead is not safe. I told them we had to be more clinical and capitalize on our chances and we did," Carr said. "I was pleased with the effort tonight, guess you could say we righted the ship a bit."

The Titans will travel to Daytona State on Tuesday night and then host ASA Miami on Saturday night in Region 8 Conference matches this week.
