Women's soccer team improves to 3-0

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team defeated Southwestern Illinois 2-0 to improve to 3-0 ob the season.

The fourth-ranked Titans scored twice in the final 20 minutes to pick up the non-conference win, handing Southwestern Illinois its first loss of the season.

With 17 minutes left in the game Ali Tosches sent a corner kick into the box and it bounced out to freshman Beatrice Gards whose first shot ricocheted off a defender and back to her. This time Gards used her left foot and lofted the ball into the far corner of the net to break the scoreless tie.

Less than two minutes later freshman Sophia Kenny blasted a shot from outside into the corner of the net to make it 2-0.

"We had possession for most of the game but couldn't score, we had so many shots but once we got the first goal, we scored again and I felt the energy and we continued to play as a team," Gards said. "We have a lot of good players on this team we just have to find our way to play and we always give 100 for each other."

Daytona State College defeated St. Louis Community College in the first game of the day as Tayla Duffy scored with less than three minutes left to post the 2-1 win.
