Women's soccer team punches ticket to semifinals

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team punched its ticket into the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament semifinal Wednesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

The Titans played the final game of the day Wednesday and clinched Pool D with a 3-0 victory over No. 5 Schoolcraft College.

Eastern Florida State College is heading to the semifinals with three straight clean sheets.

"I am really proud of the back line, we have good shape in the back and we all connect with each other," sophomore defender Juna Suppan said. "We have worked hard on our defense and it is making a difference."

While the defense held Schoolcraft at bay, Region 8 Freshman of the Year Ebony Wiseman got things started on the offensive end. Wiseman took a pass from Klesha Darroux and hit a strike from outside the box that found the corner of the net. It was the 10th goal of the season for Wiseman who has scored in all five of the team's postseason games.

"If she is going to score it seems like it's going to be a wonder goal," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "We are fortunate to have attacking players like Ebony, Nat (Nathali Da Silva) and Katie (Lockwood). It was just a great team effort."

Lockwood scored the second goal of the day, four minutes before halftime as she took a pass from Cristina Garriga and getting through a defender and quickly striking it into the corner of the net. It was Lockwood's 17th goal of the season.

Da Silva rounded out the scoring in the second half with a perfectly placed shot on the run to give the Titans a 3-0 win. It was Da Silva's team-leading 18th goal of the season. The sophomore has now scored in six straight goals.

Eastern Florida State College will advance to the National Tournament semifinals, facing No. 2 Tyler Junior College at 8 p.m. on Friday. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students. Children 5 and under, free. College students must present school ID.
