ASA Brooklyn makes NJCAA National Tournament semifinal
ASA Brooklyn broke open a close game to knock off No. 3 Laramie County Community College and advance to the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament semifinals Wednesday afternoon at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, FL.
Tied 2-2 at halftime, Laramie County Community College took the lead three minutes into the second half on a Nikita Woods goal.
From there it was all ASA Brooklyn as the Avengers would score five straight goals to advance to the semifinals for the first time.
"I think it was a great effort by the girls, we made a few changes and that really made a difference," ASA Brooklyn assistant coach Walter Jaramillo said. "What's great about this team is that we have players who can make a difference at any time."
And on Wednesday that fact rang true as Estelle Badoadana, Iana Freitas, Asako Ideue, Tamara Queiroz, Sara Suarez Quevedo and Reny Farfan all scored goals for ASA Brooklyn who improved to 13-0.
While ASA Brooklyn was adding to its lead, goalkeeper Leticia Sandoval was keeping Laramie County Community College off the board, making several big saves down the stretch.
"She trains so hard and wants to be a great goalkeeper," ASA Brooklyn head coach Brett Polow said of Sandoval. "She is becoming a great leader, kind of quiet and is starting to make some great saves. It is a testament to how hard she is working and the commitment she puts in every day."
Sandoval finished with five saves in the game.
ASA Brooklyn will play No. 1 seed Phoenix College in the first semifinal Friday night at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
