Women's soccer team opens postseason against Broward College Friday

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team heads into the Region 8 Tournament as the No. 2 seed and looking to advance to the District Tournament for the seventh straight season.

The Titans will play Broward College in the first semifinal on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Daytona State College. The women's soccer team has beaten Broward twice this season, 3-1 final in both matchups.

"It's always tough playing the same team three times and the first two games were very close - Broward is a very good team and well coached.  We will have to be ready to play from the first whistle if we hope to advance," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "It's the playoffs, anything can happen."

Sophomore Katie Lockwood leads Region 8 in scoring, assists and points this season, scoring 12 goals and assisting on nine others.

"It's been good, we have learned how to play together and we just need to take that into this weekend, we have outshot Daytona in both games but have lost so we are ready for this weekend and the biggest game of the year. I think we can make it back to the national tournament this season," Lockwood said during 'Inside Titan Sports' this week. "It's a must-win, really. We know how it felt to lose last year and then last Monday and we don't want to feel like that again. We are working hard this week and hopefully that transfers into the weekend. I think we can do it."

The Titans come into the matchup winning four of the final five games of the season and have scored 59 goals in 10 games this season and have allowed just eight.

Host Daytona State College will play Polk State in the other semifinal Friday night. The two winners will advance to the final on Sunday at 6 p.m. The champion will go to the District H Tournament, which will be Nov. 4-5 at a site to be determined.

Admission is $5 to games this weekend at Daytona State College.
