Women's soccer team rolls in conference opener

After over three weeks off, the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opened the Region 8 Conference season with a dominating performance against Polk State College Monday night at Titan Soccer Complex on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans scored the first of 11 goals 26 seconds into the match as Klesha Darroux scored the first of her three goals on the evening. Darroux, who now has five goals on the season, scored the third and ninth goals of the game.

"It was nice to get that early goal and it really set the tone for the game," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said.

Freshman Cristina Garriga scored the first of her four goals less than eight minutes later and now leads the Titans with seven goals in three games.

Sophomore Katie Lockwood made it 5-0 in the first half and about 10 minutes later she scored on a penalty kick. It was Lockwood's second and third goals of the season.

Sophomore Nathali Da Silva also scored in the first half as the Titans led 8-0 at halftime.

With less than a minute left in the contest freshman Ebony Wiseman scored her second goal of the season.

"We controlled the game, had a lot of different players contribute in this win. It was nice but it is just the start as we have to travel to Broward and Daytona this week, but this was nice way to start off the week," Carr said.

The Titans are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference and travel to Broward College on Thursday night and then travel to Daytona State on Sunday night before returning to Titan Soccer Complex on Oct. 6 against Monroe College.
