Titans Women's Soccer Duo Earn NSCAA First Team All-America Honors

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer duo of freshmen Paula Astiazaran and Julia Hernandez have earned their second first-team All-America selections for the 2015 season.

Astiazaran, a freshman midfielder from San Sebastian, Spain, and Hernandez, a freshman striker from Madrid, Spain, received first-team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NCSAA) on Wednesday. Last Friday the duo were named to the NJCAA Division I Women's All-America first team.

Eastern Florida sophomore defender Haley Cook and freshman goalkeeper Steff Barreras received NSCAA second-team All-America honors. Sophomore midfielder Briana Camargo had received NJCAA second-team honors last week.

Also, Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Carr was named NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year.

Astiazaran scored 29 goals and added 24 assists for 82 points, shattering the goal record of 13 set in 2012.

Hernandez scored 26 goals and recorded 13 assists for 65 points as Eastern Florida spent most of the season ranked No. 1 nationally, reached the final of the NJCAA Division I Championship and finished 17-1.

Cook, from Satellite Beach, Florida and Satellite High, and Barreras were key members of the Titan defense that allowed just 13 goals in 18 games.

Barreras, from Phoenix, Arizona, played 1,277 minutes in 18 games for the Titans, allowing 12 goals, making 59 saves and recording four shutouts. She is now playing for Mexico in the CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship in Honduras.

"What an honor for our student athletes to be recognized by the NSCAA for their achievements on the field this year in a record breaking year for our team," Carr said.  "Again Paula and Julia being named first team All-American for their unbelievable seasons and then Haley and Steff being recognized for their contributions from the defensive side.

"We had a lot of other players who could have been recognized as well for fantastic achievements this year but getting four players between the first and second team says a lot about our program and the quality of players we have had the pleasure to coach.  It was an amazing season because our entire team gave everything it had in every game and every practice."
