Women's golf team is in second place in Sebring event

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team is in the hunt for the title after two rounds at the Nancy Nichols Fall Invitational in Sebring.

The Titans are in second place overall heading to the final round, trailing Southeastern University by two strokes. St. Thomas University is in third place, two strokes behind Eastern Florida State College.

Four members of the team are in the top 10 after two rounds led by Sarah Knitter who is tied for fourth overall after shooting rounds of 76 and 77 at the par 72 Sun 'N Lake Golf Club.

Gabrielle Fernandez started her day with a Hole-In-One on her first hole, the par 3, 131-yard 13th hole. It led to a 75 in the first round and she would shoot a 79 in the second round to finish sixth overall heading into the final round.

Savannah Hawthorne is tied for seventh overall at 11-over after rounds of 80 and 75. Jasmine Yang and Morela Boyd each shot rounds of 79 and 81 in Sebring.

"The team fought and scrapped all day.  Good opening round by Gabby Fernandez highlighted by her hole in one. Good comeback by Savannah and steady play from Sarah," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We need to do a better job with the simple straight forward shots and cut down on unforced errors. Tomorrow will be a good shootout for all three teams."

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
