Women's golf team places second in Mayfair tri-match

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team shot a 311 to finish second in the Mayfair tri-match Friday at Mayfair Golf Club.

The Titans shot a 311 to defeat University of Detroit Mercy but Seminole State College won the event, shooting a 288 at the site of this year's national championship tournament.

Kira Shellman led the Titans, shooting a 75 while Savannah Hawthorne had a 76. Teammate Gabrielle Fernandez shot a 79 while Delia Timpy had an 81, Oliva Timpy and Morela Boyd each shot 82s and Jasmine Yang had an 85.

"Got good play from Shellman and Hawthorne and Fernandez has continued her steady play today," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "This event is a good barometer for what we need to work on for the national tournament."

The women's golf team will compete in the Dalton State Roadrunner Invitational on April 11-12 in Georgia.
