Women's golf team has solid start in St. Augustine

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team battled a tough field and tough conditions in the first round of the World Golf Invitational at Slammer and Squire in St. Augustine.

The Titans shot a 333 in the first round of the tournament. Nova Southeastern leads the event after opening with a 290.

Sophomore Gabrielle Fernandez shot a 78 in the first round and was 3-under on the par 3 holes which is the best in the field.

"Tough day in tough conditions," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "A good job hanging in there by Gabby and Delia (Timpy). Hopefully we can play tomorrow and work off todays round."

Timpy shot an 81 while Morela Boyd had an 86 in her first tournament with the Titans. Teammate Olivia Timpy finished with an 88 and Jasmine Yang had a 92.

The final round of the tournament will tee off on Tuesday morning, weather permitting.
