Women's basketball team remains perfect in conference

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team continued to win in the Citrus Conference, defeating Miami Dade College Saturday afternoon.

The Titans, who are ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA Division I poll, scored 32 points in the third quarter, pulling away for the 93-65 victory over the Sharks at Titan Field House.

It is the 23rd straight win for the Titans who are now 19-0 in the Citrus Conference and 24-3 overall.

Eastern Florida State College's Esra Sen started things off with a 3-pointer as the Titans led the entire game. Miami Dade would keep things close, scoring the final five points of the first quarter to trail the Titans by five, 20-15.

The Titans would pull away a bit in the second quarter as Andrea Chiquemba made some big baskets in the quarter. Jaidyn Koerdt would hit a 3-pointer just before halftime and the Titans would head to the break up 40-34.

But the third quarter was all Eastern Florida State College, outscoring Miami Dade 32-10 in the quarter as the Titans would hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter and be up by 28 points, 72-44 at the end of three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw Miami Dade's Shameir Quimby get hot as she scored 14 of her 31 points in the quarter. Despite the big output, the Sharks were not able to cut into the Titans lead as both teams scored 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Amelia Hassett finished with her record-setting 21st double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in 25 minutes. Chiquemba also recorded a double-double in the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. It is Chiquemba's second double-double of the season. Koerdt finished with 11 points and E'Zaria Adams had nine in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will host Hillsborough Community College Saturday in the final home game of the season for the Titans. They will honor the sophomore class at halftime and cut down the nets to celebrate winning the Citrus Conference following the men's game. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and admission is free.
