Women's basketball team defeats Hillsborough for conference win

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team used a big second quarter to defeat Hillsborough Community College in a Citrus Conference game Wednesday night.

The No. 11 Titans outscored Hillsborough 23-6 in the second quarter and went on to post the 71-55 win. It was the program's 17th straight win and are now 13-0 in the Citrus Conference and 18-3 overall.

Down by two to start the second quarter, Eastern Florida State College went on a 10-0 run to lead 32-22 and then Mackenzie Auton hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the quarter to send the Titans to halftime leading 43-28.

The pace slowed for both teams in the second half as the Titans remained up by double digits the entire second half.

Auton hit four 3-pointers in the game and scored a season-high 14 points.

Amelia Hassett posted her 17th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 19 rebounds and also had five assists in the win. Teammate Lynn Rieth finished with 11 points while Kristiana Kulackovska and Jaidyn Koerdt each had nine.

Eastern Florida State College will be off this weekend, returning to conference action next Wednesday night at Florida Southwestern.
