Women's basketball team falls on the road

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lost in a battle of top 6 teams in the country on the first day of the Northwest Florida Tournament in Niceville on Friday.

The third-ranked Titans lost its second straight, falling to No. 6 Gulf Coast State College 66-54.

Gulf Coast jumped out to an early lead and continued to lead throughout the game as they outscored the Titans 14-8 in the first quarter.

The Titans would come back in the second quarter and tie things 18-18 with five minutes left. But Gulf Coast would make a push at the end of the quarter to head into halftime with a six-point lead, 29-23.

A 3-pointer by Esra Sen and then a basket by Amelia Hassett cut the Gulf Coast lead to three in the third quarter but that would be as close as they would get.

Jaidyn Koerdt and Kristiana Kulackovska each scored 10 points for the Titans while Hassett grabbed a team-high 19 rebounds to go with six points and eight assists.

Eastern Florida State College will play host Northwest Florida State College who is No. 1 in the national poll and the defending national champions. The game in Niceville begins at 6:30 p.m. and you can watch it here for $8.54.
