Women's basketball team hosts FSC-Jacksonville Saturday in final home game of season

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.

The second-ranked Titans will host the Florida State College at Jacksonville at 2 p.m. and will honor the sophomore class at halftime of the game.

The six sophomores have been key contributors to a historic season as the Titans look to finish their second straight unbeaten conference season. A win on Saturday will also clinch an unbeaten season at home as the Titans have won 20 straight games at Titan Field House.

Guards Shadaria Smith, Hanna Mebius-Svensson, Elli Garnett, Madlena Irena Gerke and Leilani Guion as well as forward L'or Eyeba Mputu will be recognized. All six have been instrumental in this season's success and Smith, Mebius-Svensson, Guion and Mputu have been key players in the team's rise nationally.

The sophomores will be playing their final game at Titan Field House, but the Titans have qualified for the Region VIII State Tournament which begins March 8 in Niceville, Florida.

Smith, a guard from Orlando, has scored 715 points in her career at EFSC, hitting 128 3-pointers and has 163 assists. She has started in 59 of the 61 games she has played over the past two seasons.

Mebius-Svensson, a guard from Sweden, has scored 229 points and had 75 assists in 55 games over two seasons with the Titans.

Garnett, a guard from Colorado, has started 21 of the 27 games she has played in this season and has scored 204 points and grabbed 133 rebounds this season. She also has 33 steals for the Titans.

Gerke, a guard from Latvia, has scored 153 points in her only season at Eastern Florida State College.

Guion, a guard from Orlando, has scored 439 points in 50 games as a Titan. Guion also has 141 rebounds, 142 assists and 18 blocked shots from the guard position. She has started every game this season.

Mputu, a forward from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has scored 685 points, grabbed 400 rebounds and blocked 89 shots in her two seasons. Mputu has started 26 of the 28 games this season and 30 in her career.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the final regular season game 27-1 overall and 11-0 in the conference. They have dominated the conference this season, winning games by an average of 30 points per game. The Titans are 11th in the nation in scoring, averaging 79.8 points per game, seventh in rebounding with 48.0 per game and third in blocked shots averaging 7.1 per game.

Florida State College at Jacksonville enters the final game of their season 7-22.

Saturday's game will tip off at 2 p.m. and admission is free. The game will also be shown live online at EFSC Titans YouTube page.
