Women's basketball team defeats Santa Fe for conference win

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team remained unbeaten in the Central Conference with a victory over Santa Fe in a game shown on WEFS-TV Saturday at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The third-ranked Titans used a strong third quarter to pull away and defeat Santa Fe College 76-52.

Santa Fe's Malea Brown had a big first half for the Saints, scoring 16 points in the half as Santa Fe led at halftime, 41-40.

But the Titans came out in the third quarter and outscored the Saints 18-2 in the quarter, taking a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Isimenme Ozzy Momodu and Amelia Hassett each recorded a double-double in the win and Leilani Guion led the scoring attack with 15 points while L'or Eyeba Mputu had 12 points and six rebounds.

Momodu scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season for the freshman. Teammate Hassett scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds in the game, marking the third straight game that the forward has recorded.

It is the 18th straight conference victory in a row and the Titans have now won 17 straight wins at home.

Brown led the Saints with 20 points in the loss.

Eastern Florida State College is now 21-1 overall and 5-0 in the Central Conference. The Titans will travel to Daytona State College for a conference game on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Titans will return to Titan Field House to play St. Petersburg College in a game that will be shown on WEFS-TV at 2 p.m.
