Women's basketball team cruises to fourth straight conference win

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team continued its winning ways in conference action, defeating the Florida State College at Jacksonville on the road Saturday.

The third-ranked Titans improved to 20-1 overall and 4-0 in the Central Conference with a 77-37 victory over the Blue Wave.

Leading by five after the first quarter, Eastern Florida State College came out with a 14-2 run to open the second quarter as five players scored during the run. Shadaria Smith would hit two 3-pointers late in the second quarter and the Titans were off and running.

Already leading 47-23 at halftime, the Titans would score the first eight points of the third quarter and would lead by as many as 35 late in the third quarter.

The Titans would cruise to their 17th straight conference win.

Five players scored in double figures for Eastern Florida State College led by the duo of Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu and L'or Eyeba Mputu each had 13 points. Elli Garnett hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points and Amelia Hassett finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, her second straight double-double and third of the season. Teammate Hanna Mebius-Svensson also had 10 points in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will return to Titan Field House next Saturday for a conference game against Santa Fe. The 2 p.m. game will be shown live on WEFS-TV, which is channel 9 or 455 on Spectrum, 68 on DirecTV, 30 on Dish and 68 on AT&T Uverse. The game will also be shown live online at EFSC Titans YouTube page.
