Women's basketball team defeats St. Petersburg in conference matchup

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team picked up their 16th straight conference win Wednesday night, defeating St. Petersburg College on the road.

The third-ranked Titans are now 19-1 overall and 3-0 in the Central Conference after a 65-55 win over St. Petersburg. The win gives Eastern Florida State College sole possession of first place in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College led by eight after the first quarter and extended it to 14 at halftime. The lead would reach 18 in the third quarter, but a St. Petersburg run would cut it to 11 before Leilani Guion scored and was fouled for the three-point play. The Titans would lead by 16 at the end of the third quarter.

St. Petersburg hit some shots in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 10 at the end.

Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in her first game back with the Titans. Guion scored a team-high 14 points to go with nine assists and the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week L'or Eyeba Mputu finished with 10 points.

Amelia Hassett had 10 points and nine rebounds while Elli Garnett had nine points and 10 rebounds in the win.

The women's basketball team will travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville Saturday for a Central Conference game. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. in Jacksonville.
