Women's basketball team beats No. 12 Pensacola at holiday tournament

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team won a program-best 15th straight game Friday, defeating No. 12 Pensacola State College at the Lady Jets Holiday Classic in Americus, Georgia.

The No. 1-ranked Titans jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead and went on to defeat Pensacola State 70-47 to improve to 15-0. It marks the fifth straight game the Titans have won by double digits this season.

The Titans used a strong defense to take a 24-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, increasing the lead to 37-20 at halftime.

Pensacola cut the lead to 13 at one point in the third quarter, but the Titans rebounded and went on to post the victory.

Amelia Hassett recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points to go with a season-best 17 rebounds for the Titans. Teammate L'or Eyeba-Mputu had 13 points and Leilani Guion had 11 points as nine players scored in the game.

The Titans outrebounded the Pirates 57-45 in the game.

Eastern Florida State College will play Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday before wrapping up the tournament against Shelton State Community College Sunday at 1 p.m.
