Women's basketball team beats Hillsborough on the road

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team remained unbeaten with a win against Hillsborough Community College on the road Thursday evening.

The No. 1-ranked Titans improved to 14-0 with the 89-55 victory over the Hawks.

Eastern Florida State College jumped out to a 9-0 lead and took a double-digit lead with less than four minutes left in the first quarter.

The Titans would go up 20 on a Shadaria Smith 3-pointer early in the second quarter and kept it right around 20 points throughout the quarter, going into halftime leading 45-26.

The lead remained the same in the third quarter as the Titans outscored Hillsborough 21-20 in the quarter.

The Titans would stretch the lead in the fourth quarter, going on a 10-0 run to start the quarter and would end up winning by 34 points.

Leilani Guion and Amelia Hassett each scored 13 points while Madlena Irena Gerke finished with 12 points in the win. Teammates Shadaria Smith and Hanna Mebius-Svensson each finished with nine points while L'or Eyeba Mputu scored eight points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds. Overall, 12 Titans scored in the game.

After the Christmas break, the Titans will go to Georgia for the South Georgia Tech Holiday Classic. Eastern Florida State College will play Snow College Dec. 30, Chattahoochee Valley Community College on Dec. 31 and Shelton State Community College on Jan. 1.

The Titans will return to Titan Field House on Jan. 14, hosting Daytona State College at 2 p.m.
