Women's basketball team plays Shelton State tonight in national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will be back on the court tonight in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.

The Titans will face No. 2 seed Shelton State College at 7 p.m. EDT at Rip Griffin Center in a Sweet 16 matchup.

Eastern Florida State College improved to 27-4 with a 69-54 win over No. 15 Moberly Area Community College Wednesday, giving the No. 18 seed a win in its first national tournament appearance in program history.

Shelton State comes into the tournament 29-1 and have won 28 straight games. The Bucs have one of the top-scoring offenses in the country, averaging 86.2 points per game. Nya Valentine is averaging 14.1 points per game this season for the Bucs who have seven players averaging at least seven points per game.

Eastern Florida State College also brings a balanced attack as five players are averaging seven points per game. Rapuluchi Ngorka comes into the contest averaging 13.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game while Shadaria Smith is averaging 12 points and Kaitlyn Sanders is averaging 11 points per game this season.

In the national tournament opener, the Titans had four players score at least 10 points as Tatiana Beaumont led the attack with a season-high 20 points.

The Bucs have made it to at least the quarterfinals of the national tournament the past six seasons, but have yet to win a national title.
