Women's basketball team falls in battle of top 25 teams

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team fell short in a battle of top 25 teams Wednesday afternoon at the Lady Jets Holiday Classic in Americus, Georgia.

The 24th-ranked Titans lost to No. 7 Georgia Highlands 61-52 in the second game of the day.

Eastern Florida State College took the lead about halfway through the first quarter and held it throughout the first half, leading 24-23 at halftime as Rapuluchi Ngorka scored 11 points in the half. 

The two teams traded the lead a couple of times early in the third quarter but a Georgia Highlands 8-0 run in the middle of the third quarter ended up being the difference.

The Titans would cut the lead to three in both the third and fourth quarters but could not get back on top as the Chargers won their 12th straight game of the season.

Ngorka finished with her ninth double double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while L'or Eyeba Mputu had eight points and seven rebounds while Shadaria Smith also had eight points.

Eastern Florida State College is now 12-3 on the season heading into the final game of the classic on Thursday morning. The Titans will play Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 10 a.m. Chattahoochee Valley is 2-0 in the tournament, beating both St. Petersburg and Tallahassee.

Following Thursday's game, the Titans will open the Central Conference season on Jan. 5, traveling to Jacksonville to play the Florida State College of Jacksonville at 5:30 p.m.
