Women's basketball team to play in Lady Jets Holiday Classic

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will travel to Georgia for the Lady Jets Holiday Classic beginning Tuesday.

The Titans, who are ranked 24th in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, will play three games in the tournament, held at South Georgia Tech in Americus, Georgia.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the tournament 11-2 on the season and will open Tuesday night against Lawson State Community College at 7 p.m. Lawson State comes into the tournament a perfect 9-0 and has five players averaging at least eight points per game. Eastern Florida State College has four players averaging at least 10.5 points per game, led by Rapuluchi Ngorka's 15 points per game. Shadaria Smith is averaging 11 points while Kaitlyn Sanders and L'or Eyeba Mputu are each averaging 10 points this season.

Then on Wednesday at 3 p.m., the Titans will play No. 7 Georgia Highlands College who is 12-2 on the season and has won 10 in a row. The Pioneers are one of the highest-scoring teams in the country, averaging 82.4 points per game this season. Georgia Highlands is led by Jashanti Simons who is scoring 16 points per game while four other players are averaging 11 points or more per game.

The Titans will wrap up the tournament on Thursday morning, playing Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 10 a.m. Chattahoochee Valley is 3-7 on the season coming into the tournament. Jardyn Alexander is leading the Pirates, averaging 12.6 points per game.

The Titans will open the Central Conference season on Jan. 5, traveling to Jacksonville to play the Florida State College of Jacksonville at 5:30 p.m.
