Women's basketball team falls in state tournament quarterfinals

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lost in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA State Tournament Thursday night in Niceville, Florida.

The No. 22 Titans season ended with a 77-54 loss to fifth-ranked Northwest Florida State College.

The Raiders came out strong in the first quarter, taking an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game and would stretch it to 28-10 after the first quarter as the Titans struggled from the floor, shooting just 26 percent from the floor.

The Raiders would stretch the lead to 23 in the second quarter, but the Titans seemed to come to life after a Jacquelyn Levay 3-pointer with under three minutes left in the second quarter. From there the Titans would reel off 12 straight points to cut the lead to 11. Anja Knoflach would hit a 3-pointer to make it a 10-point lead as the clock was winding down, but Northwest Florida answered with a 3-pointer as the first half ended to lead 44-31 at the half.

The Titans would get it to 11 points one other time but every time they would get on a run, Northwest Florida seemed to have an answer. Five Northwest Florida State College players finished with at least 11 points in the win. They will advance to the semifinals on Friday.

Sophomores Levay and Skye Williams each finished with 11 points in their final game as Titans. Eastern Florida State College finishes the season at 23-7.
