Women's basketball team rolls past St. Petersburg in conference game

The No. 22-ranked Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team dominated the first quarter en route to a 95-59 win over St. Petersburg College in a Suncoast Conference game Saturday at Titan Field House.

St. Petersburg took their only lead of the game on the opening basket and then the Titans went on a 17-0 run over the next four minutes and went on to lead 31-10 after the first quarter led by Zahria Jenkins' nine-point quarter.

From there the Titans continued to play well and led 29 points at halftime. The 95 points was the sixth time this season the team has scored 90-plus points in a game.

Four players finished in double digits in scoring Saturday led by Stephanie Torres' 19-point performance. Teammate Milan Schimmel had 16 points, seven assists and five blocks in the game while Skye Williams had 15 points. Jenkins finished with 11 points and four steals.

The Titans improved to 21-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. They have already locked up second place in the conference and a trip to the FCSAA State Tournament with two games remaining in the regular season. The team will travel to Hillsborough Communty College on Wednesday night and then wrap up the regular season with a battle of top 25 teams Saturday afternoon when Florida Southwestern State College comes to Titan Field House Saturday at 2 p.m.
