Women's basketball team comes up short against Florida Southwestern

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team came up short in a battle of top 25 teams in the nation Wednesday night.

The No. 22 Titans lost to No. 14 Florida Southwestern 77-76 in a Suncoast Conference game in Fort Myers.

Skye Williams hit both free throws with 18 seconds remaining to tie the game, 76-76 but Narimar Vargas Reyes was fouled with 6.9 seconds left, making one of two to give the Bucs the win.

The Titans were down by as many as 12 late in the third quarter but went into the fourth quarter down just five and won the fourth 23-19.

Williams led the Titans with 24 points and six rebounds while teammate Jacquelyn Levay hit six 3-pointers to finish with 19 points. Milan Schimmel had 14 points and eight rebounds while Stephanie Torres finished with 12.

Za'Nautica Downs led the Bucs with 30 points.

The Titans, who fell to 20-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference, will host St. Petersburg Feb. 15 at Titan Field House beginning at 2 p.m.
