Women's basketball hits road for tournament this weekend

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team is off to its best start in over a decade as they head into the Florida College Women's Basketball Shootout this weekend in Panama City.

The Titans are 7-1 and No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Region 8 Coaches Poll and is second in the state in scoring, averaging 82.8 points per game.

Eastern Florida State College will play Santa Fe at noon on Friday and then the College of Central Florida at 3 p.m. Saturday in Panama City.

Stephanie Torres leads Region 8 in 3-point percentage, hitting 61.1 percent of her 3-pointers and teammate Skye Williams leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game.

The Titans open the tournament at noon on Friday against Santa Fe who comes into the contest 6-5 overall and has won three of the past four after defeating Hillsborough Community College on Tuesday.

On Saturday the Titans will play the College of Central Florida at 3 p.m. The Patriots, who are No. 9 in the Region 8 poll, come into the contest 7-4 and are coming off an overtime loss to Indian River State College on Tuesday.
