Women's basketball team opens regular season Friday

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will open the regular season at the Indian River Tip-Off Classic in Fort Pierce.

The Titans are coming off a 14-win season and begin the season No. 7 in the NJCAA Region 8 preseason poll. Eastern Florida State College will face a couple of familiar foes in the tournament, playing former conference opponents Palm Beach State College and then Indian River State College.

The women's team returns nine players from last year including Skye Williams who made the first team all-conference and all-state teams last year averaging 14.1 points per game. Jacquelyn Levay is back after averaging 12.4 points per game and was named to the all-Suncoast Conference second team.

The Titans will open the tournament at 4 p.m. Friday against Palm Beach State College and have won three straight against the Panthers and are 9-1 in the series the past five seasons.

Then on Saturday the women will face host Indian River State College at 4 p.m. and have won five straight against the Pioneers and are 11-1 in the past five seasons.
