Women's basketball program completes over 1,100 hours of community service

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball program has been working hard on and off the court but also made time to help around the community.

The women's basketball program completed over 1,100 hours of community service over the past school year, volunteering almost every Friday at Suntree, Sherwood and Ocean Breeze elementary schools throughout the fall and spring. The team also worked during the Halloween party at Wickham Park, the JA event at Challenger 7 and the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer walk.

Overall, each player completed over 70 hours of community service.

"As a program we have made a commitment to invest in our community and specifically reach out to kids because we feel it is extremely valuable to give back and to commit to empowering our team to be servant leaders," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said. "We take pride in selflessly loving and being a light fueled by joy, encouragement and time. We believe to make an impact in our community, it starts with one act of serving and we want to make a difference. "
