Women's basketball team heads into Sophomore Night needing a win

It will be a big night for the Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team who will honor the sophomores Wednesday night during a key Suncoast Conference game at Titan Field House.

The Titans head into Wednesday night's game against Hillsborough Community College needing a win to stay in the conference playoff race and will honor the five sophomores at halftime of the game which begins at 5:30 p.m.

"It will be the last time our sophomores will be on our court and we want to send them off with a win and protect our court," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said. "But it is a big game for us because we are also still battling for second place in the conference so in order to even think about contending for second place, we need to beat Hillsborough."

The two teams have already met twice this season with the Titans winning both games.

Sophomores Angeni Worley, Phillipa Greene, Isabella Lopez, Taylor Jones and Sierra Votaw will be honored at halftime of Wednesday's game. Worley and Greene are in their second season with the Titans, helping the team to the state tournament championship game last season. They are hoping to get back to the state tournament this season and need a win on Wednesday to stay in the race.

"It is a big game for us because we didn't play well in our last game and so it will be good to see how we respond," Baker said. "We want to make sure we send the sophomores out with a good performance in their final game at Titan Field House."

Tipoff for Wednesday's game is 5:30 p.m. and admission to games at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus is free.
