Women's basketball team falls to Daytona State

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team could not find their shooting range, losing to Daytona State College Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.

The Titans fell to 10-8 on the season with the 78-71 loss.

Daytona State College took advantage of the Titans slow start, jumping out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and Titan Sierra Votaw kept things close, scoring 11 points in the first half as Eastern Florida State College trailed 35-20 at the half.

Down 15 in the third quarter, the shooters began to find that range as the Titans went on a 15-0 run, hitting five straight 3-pointers. Sophomore Angeni Worley got things started, hitting two in a row before Jacquelyn Levay hit the first of two and Tynasia Bunting also had a 3-pointer to cut the Daytona lead to one, 44-43.

But Daytona would build the lead back to eight heading to the fourth quarter. The Titans came out with a 6-0 run to cut it to two points again but couldn't tie the game up as the Falcons held on for the win.

The Titans will open the Suncoast Conference schedule next Saturday at St. Petersburg before hosting Hillsborough Community College on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Jan. 16th game will be Green Dot night at Titan Field House.
