Mariah Batz has big night in women's basketball win

Eastern Florida State College sophomore Mariah Batz has had some pretty big games in a Titans jersey, but nothing compared to Saturday afternoon's performance.

The guard from Titusville hit nine 3-pointers to lead the women's basketball team past Hillsborough Community College 77-54 in a Suncoast Conference game at Titan Field House.

"I have never hit nine 3's in a game, ever. And yesterday I shot terrible in practice so it is shocking that I came out today and did that," Batz said after the game.

Batz missed her first three 3-pointers of the day but then hit nine of the next 14 to finish with a career-high 29 points.

The game was tight throughout the first half with the Titans holding a 35-32 edge at halftime. But the third quarter was all Eastern Florida State College as they held Hillsborough to eight points while scoring 21 to pull away for the win as the Titans improved to 16-4 overall and 1-1 in the Suncoast Conference.

Claire Bady also had one of her best games as a Titan, finishing with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Alexandrine Obouh Fegue finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in the win.

"This was a good win for us, we needed this win tonight," Batz said.

Eastern Florida State College will look to make it two in a row on Wednesday night, hosting St. Petersburg College at 5:30 p.m. It will be Titan Pride Night at Titan Field House with free food before the game and then giveaways throughout both the women and men's games.

Admission is free.
