Women's basketball team defeats Santa Fe

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team won its fifth straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Santa Fe 61-51 at Titan Field House.

The Titans didn't waste any time, scoring 16 of the first 20 points as five different players scored in the first six and a half minutes of the game as they led from start to finish to improve to 15-3 on the season.

Santa Fe did cut into the lead and early in the fourth quarter had it down to five but Angeni Worley hit a 3-pointer, Claire Bady hit a basket and the lead was back to double digits.

The Titans were led by point guard Brianna Lewis who finished with 21 points, the fourth game this season she has scored at least 20 in a game. It is also the fourth straight game that Lewis has scored at least 12 points in a game.

Victoria Morales finished with a double double, scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds while Mariah Batz finished with 10 points. Bady had a team-high 11 rebounds to go with her six points.

Eastern Florida State College will open the Suncoast Conference season Wednesday night, traveling to Naples to play No. 22 Florida Southwestern. Game time is 5:30 p.m. The Titans will return to Titan Field House Saturday afternoon, hosting Hillsborough Community College at 2 p.m.
