Women's basketball team rallies past Daytona State

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team came out in the fourth quarter and scored 12 of the first 14 points to take a lead against Daytona State College on the road Wednesday night.

Daytona State College would tie the game back up but Alexandrine Obouh Fegue hit a basket and was fouled with three minutes and 35 seconds remaining and went on to beat the Falcons 69-60 to improve to 8-2 on the season.

Obouh Fegue came up big in the fourth quarter for the Titans as the sophomore scored 16 of her team-high 20 points in the fourth.

"The fourth quarter is about toughness and our tea really came together, battled on the boards and made some big stops defensively," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said.

Teammate Mariah Batz hit five 3-pointers and scored 12 of her 19 points in the second half of the game.

"Mariah came out a bit hesitant and I had a talk with her at halftime, told her not to think and just play the game and have fun and she found her shot in the second half."

The Titans jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter behind Batz who had seven points in the quarter.

But Daytona State College took over in the second quarter, finishing on a 14-1 run to take a 28-24 halftime lead. The Falcons would lead most of the third quarter but the fourth quarter belonged to the Titans.

Brianna Lewis finished with 14 points and Victoria Morales had a team-high 13 rebounds to go with a clutch 3-pointer late in the third quarter to keep the Titans close.

The Titans will be home for the first time all season on Friday night, hosting ASA Miami at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free to games at Titan Field House.
