Titan women's basketball team defeats Indian River State College

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team put together one of their best games of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Indian River State College 91-52 at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

After a back and forth first quarter, Eastern Florida State College finished the second quarter on a 21-2 run to head into the locker room up 52-30.

Brooklyn Cruz led the charge with 14 of her career-high 16 points in that second quarter.

"She has battled some injuries this season so it was nice to see her give us quality minutes and go 100 percent tonight," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball interim head coach Stephanie Shafer said.

Trudy Walker came out with a quick six points in the third quarter to make sure there would be no comeback and the Titans cruised to their ninth win of the season.

Walker finished with her second straight 20-20 game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 22 rebounds. The sophomore from Fort Pierce now has 15 double-doubles on the season and three straight games of 20 or more rebounds.

Theodora Odia finished with 15 points and Mariah Batz had 13 in the win.

"It was a great team effort, really fun to see four girls in double figures and it really epitomizes part of our Titan Four - together," Shafer said. "There was a lot of ball movement, ball reversible which are all things coach (Jim) Grimes preached and loved."

The Titans will host Palm Beach State College on Wednesday night in the final home game of the season. The three sophomores will be honored after the game, which tips off at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and the game will be shown live on WEFS-TV and online at efsctitans.com/webcast
