Women's basketball team defeats Florida Southwestern in conference opener

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team opened the Southern Conference with a 81-76 road victory over Florida Southwestern Wednesday night.

The Titans jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half but Florida Southwestern stormed back in the third quarter and with under eight minutes remaining in the contest, held a three-point lead. But Eastern Florida State finished strong to pick up the win.

Trudy Walker led the way with her 10th double-double of the season, scoring 23 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Walker has scored at least 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in four straight games. Teammates Victoria Morales had 13 points and Caitlyn Smith finished with 12.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Miami Dade next Tuesday before hosting Broward College at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21.
