Titan Women Roll Past St. Petersburg

Eastern Florida's women's basketball team outscored host St. Petersburg by 20 points in the second quarter en route to an 81-63 victory on Tuesday.

The triumph moved first place Eastern Florida to 11-1 in the FCSAA Southern Conference and 18-8 overall.

St. Petersburg fell to 2-10 and 5-22.

Sophomore Crystal Townsend led the Eastern Florida scoring with 21 points. Freshman Trudy Walker had a career night with 20 points and 14 rebounds, 13 on the defensive end.

Sophomore Paola Vasquez added 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while classmate Nene Johnson scored 10 points and added five rebounds and four assists.

Townsend also pulled down eight rebounds.

Eastern Florida led 19-16 after the first quarter but a 26-6 second quarter lifted the Titans to a 45-22 halftime advantage.

The Titans can take a big step toward their second consecutive conference title on Saturday when they host Miami Dade College at 2 p.m. at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus.

Miami Dade, 5-5 in the conference, hosted second-place Broward, 9-2, on Tuesday.

The Titans have beaten Broward twice to own the tiebreaker should the teams finish with identical records. The Titans have split two games with Miami Dade.

The conference's top two teams advance to the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Region 8 Tournament.
