Titan Women Remain Unbeaten in Conference by Beating Broward

Eastern Florida's women's basketball team outscored Broward College 22-12 in the third quarter en route to a 72-61 victory on Tuesday at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus.

The FCSAA Southern Conference victory moved defending champion Eastern Florida to 7-0 in the conference and 14-7 overall. Broward fell to 5-2 and 13-6 with its second loss to the Titans.

Eastern Florida struggled, especially in the first half when it missed several layups and was just 3-for-9 from the free throw line.

The score was 20-19 Eastern Florida after the first quarter and 29-29 at halftime.

Sophomore Paola Vasquez scored eight third-quarter points to spark the Titans to 51-41 lead.

The Titans led by as many as 12 points five times in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Crystal Townsend led Eastern Florida with 16 points and four steals while Vasquez added 15 including two key three-pointers and a two-pointer off a steal that gave the Titans a 50-38 lead.

Freshman Kienya Jones added 11 points for Eastern Florida. Freshman Trudy Walker pulled down eight rebounds and Vasquez six. Sophomore Nene Johnson had six assists to go with nine points.

Freshman Nicole Jimenez scored 23 points for Broward.

"We still are not playing up to our potential," said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes. "With what lies ahead it is imperative we play a complete game."

Next up for the Titans is a stretch of three conference games in five days beginning with a Saturday trip to Miami Dade College in Kendall and 5:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday home games against Palm Beach State and Indian River State respectively.
