
Softball team sweeps College of Central Florida
The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a pair of conference wins Saturday at Titan Softball Complex.
The 20th ranked Titans beat No. 19 College of Central Florida 6-0 in the first game and 13-7 in the second game to improve to 4-2 in the Citrus Conference that was live on WEFS-TV.
Starting pitcher Avery Velazquez picked up her 12th win of the season striking out seven and allowed just five hits over seven shutout innings.
In the bottom of the first inning Aracelis Jimenez walked and scored on Ashley Corazzini's double. Then Corazzini scored on a Madison Velazquez single.
Up 2-0, the Titans scored four times in the third inning as Corazzini and Avery Velazquez singled and Madison Velazquez doubled to score Corazzini. Isabel Otero singled, driving in Avery Velazquez and then Jessica Merk drove in two with a double.
It was all Avery Velazquez needed as she posted her 10th complete game. Madison Velazquez and Merk each had two hits and drove in two runs.
The College of Central Florida scored in the top of the first inning but it didn't last long as Avery Velazquez hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning.
Leah Clark hit her first of two home runs in the game in the second inning to cap off a four-run second inning.
Once again, the Titans came back, batting around and scoring four times to lead 6-5 after two innings.
Clark's solo home run in the fourth inning tied the game 6-6.
Avery Velazquez hit a ball off the top of the fence in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in Corazzini and she would advance to third on an error and beat the throw home to make it 8-6.
The lead would stay 8-6 until the sixth inning when the Titans would score five times.
Avery Velazquez went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run while Madison Velazquez had three singles in the win.
Luci Walters picked up the win and Avery Velazquez picked up the two-inning save, her second of the season.
Eastern Florida State College will host Daytona State College in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex. Admission is free and you can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
